An Eventful Week/end

Okay for you people who are strict about grammar, I realize that week/end is not a word, but it was what I needed to cover the entire week and the weekend. I thought it was rather clever, but then again, we all know I am not a morning person so anything might be clever right now.

AT came down with a cold this week. He is finally feeling better. However, his sister stayed home on Thurs and his nose was the following result.

They may want to rethink ignoring mom when she says "don't do that, you can fall and hurt yourself." I now have printed proof to remind them that sometimes mom is right. He actually has two scratches on either side underneath his nose now, too. The poor kids looks like he was attacked in his sleep by a cat or something.

AD had cheer camp this weekend. She really did a good job. I have been worried that our children would end up with my coordination (or lack of), but she seemed to follow along really well.

AJ opted to not do cheer camp this year and instead partcipated in the KofC Freethrow contest. She ended up winning her group with 5/15 shots. I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you are the only contestant in your age/gender group, you are the winner by default. (She even readily admits this.) She shoots again Feb 28th down in the TC. I think she's going to get in the gym before then and work on those freethrows. She has her first basketball game tonight. There are only 7 girls on her team, so she is going to be tired.

As for the rest of us: T had his first jr high basketball game last week and I didn't work as much due to AT not feeling well.
Less than two weeks and it is our Crafter's Getaway in the TC. Mom comes up next week and I am really looking forward to it. I can't say I have any projects lined up to work on, although I've have tons of UFOs, (unfinished objects). I hope to find time to work on something before she gets here so I have something to do at the retreat. If anyone is interested, we are still taking registrations!
Well, best get going, so:
Enjoy your day!

Scraps

I have been wanting to take a class from a quilting store down in TC and yesterday I had that opportunity. It was a Scrap Cutting class. While the idea and the patterns were really good and I was the only one in the class so there was lots of one on one attention (woo-hoo), it was the actual cutting that got me excited. The teacher showed me how to use a ruler (one I had and did not know how to use so I gave it away at our Retreat last year-kick myself, kick myself, kick myself) that makes cutting over in a less than 15 minutes. If any of you have seen my overflowing stash, I do not just have nice fat quarters and jelly rolls (or whatever they call them). I have BIG pieces. So cutting when you want to start a pattern is a pain and usually is the longest part of my quilting process. Plus I am a sucker for fabric and take any donated fabric people are handing out, which means I have a lot of scrap fabric. Well, she showed me yesterday how to cut that fabric into three usuable sizes in a short, short amount of time. I wish I could go into more detail online, but I will say that the teacher is coming to our Crafter's Retreat Feb 5th-7th and will be demo-ing this cutting technique. (Once again, a shameless plug on my part, but hey, it is my blog.) ;-) I can't wait to go buy this ruler so I can do some more cutting. Since starting my Master's I haven't felt like I have the time to spare to quilt, but with this quick technique, I may be able to get back to doing what I love.

Enjoy your day!

Just Another Week

I wish I could say there was something amazing that happened this week. However, it was just another week. Well, that's not entirely true. It was the first week back to school for everyone. In fact, Monday morning the alarm felt like a really bad dream. We all seemed to sluggishly pull ourselves back into the regular routine we were used to before break. (For those of you shaking your head offering no sympathy since we are coming off a two week break, I totally understand and respect your right to continue shaking.)

I wish I had more to report . . . I'm thinking . . . can't you hear the noise as the wheels in my brain turn? T and AJ went pheasant hunting this week. Jake decided to start his old routine of getting out of the backyard and going to visit the neighborhood dogs again (much to my dismay). Our house (the rental) will be back on the market soon. The renter had wanted to buy it, but decided it wasn't going to work for her. If you are local and know anyone looking for a nice house, give us a call (shameless plug, I know, but you have to do what you have to do).

I guess that's the extent of our week. This week should be fairly busy but I will try to remember more of what happened. However, I was going to try to post each week and so far, I'm right on track. (Even if it wasn't much of a post.)

Enjoy your day!

Three Days into the New Year

We had a very quiet relaxing New Year's Eve. The girls said they were going to stay up and usher in the New Year, but they were fast asleep by 11 pm. T and I didn't make it, either. Surprisingly enough, the New Year came anyway. Sleep gets to be a very prized possession the older you get, I swear.

The snow melted fast on New Year's Day. We don't have a whole lot left. The kids played in it a little bit on NYEve. Good thing, because it's almost gone after a couple of 40 degree days!

The break has been very relaxing and tomorrow we all head back to the normal routine of school and work. Getting up will be difficult since we've all been sleeping in lately. One major change is AT is going to go to daycare every Wednesday. T and I think it will be good for him to socialize with other kids and listen to other adults. I'm a little nervous for him to start preschool next year with the way he is sometimes. I know he loves to write, color, and cut so that may hold his interest a little bit.

Hopefully, I will be a little more on top of posting this year. My goal is once a week (schedules get busy in the spring). So here's to the New Year!

Enjoy your day!
