Well, it's been a busy week to say the least. I can't really say what I've been up to, but I know it's been enough to keep me away from the computer. The kids have two days off (yesterday & today) for conferences and then a half day on Fri. Then it's Spring Break. We are headed over to the ILs for baseball games and to stay the night. Should be a lot of fun. Between doing some things around here and baseball, we should stay busy this spring break. Guess I don't know a whole lot else. The sun is shining and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will get nice enough (meaning no wind!) to send the kids (and their friends) outside today.
Enjoy your day!

Cold
Boy for the first game of the baseball season it sure is reminding us that spring is NOT here yet. The kids & I went to one of the jamboree games this morning. We managed to find a nice sheltered spot to hang out and then we bolted for home. T wasn't even coaching the varsity today. He was helping the JV coach. It was fun to go and start to look forward to more games and hopefully WARMER weather.
AT & I spent the week battling colds. I think so far I've managed to sidestep it. I'm hoping anyway.
We had Reading Night at the elementary school the other night. They do such a good job with those! The kids had fun and there were a lot of people there.
Soooooo looking forward to Spring Break!

Another one done
Here's the other one. This one was started at the Crafter's Getaway at the end of Jan beginning of Feb with my mom. It was one of those ones that you stack the fabrics up and then cut across. No measuring involved. The key to this one was adding the extra white around the hearts. (And yes the hearts are supposed to be a little wonky. I'm not sure if that's really a word, but it works!)
It measures 31X35. I stippled all the white, but left the hearts puffy. I like it better that way.
I just used the back and wrapped it around to the front for the binding. I was thrilled that the polka dots actually matched the one blue heart on the front.

Good to be done!
This little gem is finished. It's hard to tell but the print has frogs on it (don't ask, I just had them and they were green). It's for a friend of mine who just had a little boy and is very Irish (hence the green). Technically the pattern (if made smaller) would be an Irish Chain, but I had all these 4" frog squares and they just worked. Thankfully (for her), the two models do not go with the quilt! (As you can see, it was a jammie day for AT.)
The back got really bunchy. It did shrink up a little bit in the wash, but not as much as I would have liked it to. I think after having done hand stippling and hand templates, I prefer the stippling. I love the feel of it when it's washed and dried. Plus it seems to hold it together so much better. (You also don't have to worry about your mistakes being off, like they were A LOT on this one.)
Because my friend is Irish, I went ahead and stitched shamrocks into the white & frog pieces on the quilt. That wasn't so bad. However, when I went to do the squares around them, let's just say they aren't very square. ;-(

This quilt was 33X33". I'll have more pix & notes later because the other quilt I just finished is in the dryer as I write.
In other news, it snowed today. I bet baseball practice was a whole lot of fun!
Enjoy your day!

AN's quilts
AN came over yesterday and finished her quilts she started. This first one she had started about two weeks ago, but with school & sports, she did not make it back until yesterday. Between the two of us we knocked both these out. She took them home to tie them (we did the pillow trick with the edge). There wasn't time (or energy) to try to use the backing as the binding. It's been awhile since I've put one together like that.
They turned out really cute. They are for her twin nephews. They are probably no bigger than 36X36 for the top one and 32X32 for the bottom one. I liked that she did different for both. Sometimes twins get the same exact things, just different colors so it's kind of nice that they will each have their own unique quilt.

It's the Weekend
I sure am glad it's Friday. I'm exhausted from working three days this week (I know, you can say it "WIMP!"), going to town one day, and cleaning the other day. Plus AT started getting sick. Last night was the worst. He's so congested and if he gets to coughing, then I get to clean up. You feel so bad for them when they are sick like that. Especially when they are too little to tell you or to know what to do.
Need to finish quilting one of the last baby quilts I've been working on. Was thinking I could get to it tonight, but we'll see. I need to get it and the other one done before Tues (no pressure, I know). I did read a quick little book called The Tale of Alice's Quilt by Jennifer Blomgren. In the book, a young girl (12) finishes a quilt started by her great aunt who passes away at the same age. It really was a great story and would be a good read. If AJ wants to, I know I'd let her read it. I have some quilt squares that my great-great aunt, Anna, started (or possibly her mother, we aren't sure), that I need to finish up. And just like in the story, some are butterflies.
I'm yawing as I type this (and it's only 8:30!) so I'm guessing I won't be accomplishing anything grand tonight. But with the cleaning done yesterday, tomorrow could be a different story.

Rainy Day
Well, I think I'm glad I had to work today and am scheduled to work tomorrow. It was rainy, (but not too cold) today and they are kind of saying it will stick around for the rest of the week. We are loving our new couches! T thought the girls and I did a very good job picking them out. They are comfy and I'm so glad we were able to go with microfiber instead of the vinyl/leather-ish ones. The microfiber is much softer and warmer. So far the kids are being respectful around them.
Poor AJ. She came home from vball and was sitting at the table doing her homework and burst into tears because she got a Refocus at school today. (You all know how she loves school and loves to be good in school; it's just home she has issues!) Needless to say, we reassured her that we were sure it won't happen again, but that sometimes you do get in trouble if you don't listen to the teacher.
Baseball got off to a soggy, chilly start. T said it never did rain on them, but he had tons of layers on because it didn't feel that warm out. That warmer weather is coming, I just know it.
Well, bedtime is looming for three little kids (and myself not too long after them!). Enjoy your evening.
