Small Town Living: No Regrets (Yet) ;-)

Five years ago this summer, (wow! it's really been that long), we left the "big city" for small town living.  Since T and I had both grown up in small towns, we knew we didn't want our children growing up in the big city.  We wanted the whole small town living package (the good parts, as well as the bad).  This week has been such a reminder of that.  Wed we had the Preschool Taco Feed, but it was also AT's bday.  You would not believe all day long how many people wished him a Happy Birthday.  Then at the Taco Feed, the group (a fellowship hall full of people) sang Happy Birthday to him and another little girl.  I must be getting more emotional the older I am getting or maybe because he is the baby, but I almost cried.  (Scary enough, I'm tearing up just thinking about it.)  The thoughtfulness (is that really a word?) of our community is the reason T and I made the choice to move.  While there are days I miss the convenience of the "big city" I wouldn't trade weeks like this for anything.

Then on Thurs we had the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Elementary school.  The entire Elementary school was there and the superintendent talked about the proud history of our community.  (Again the age thing is to blame for my emotional status that day, too.  Good thing I was wearing sunglasses so no one could see.)  If all goes as planned, AT will be the first Kinder class in the brand new school.  AD will be in 3rd grade (I think?) and poor AJ will be up at the junior high with me.  The plan once the new school is built is to then move us junior high people down to the old elementary while they rebuild the junior high.  That means AJ will actually will attend 7th grade at the elementary school!  She's kind of getting gyped in this deal, but she might end up with a year at the new junior high (we hope).  I can't wait to see the progress as this all happens.  I am so excited for the entire community!!

On another note about small towns, it really helps to know people!  I went to a friend's yard sale and scored big time!  Check out the haul I brought in for only $20:

Believe it or not, there are three quilt batting (twin size) bags there and a ton of flannel and fabric.   There was also a brand new still in wrapping DS game for the girls and about eight books!  The worst part is my friend tried to pratically tried to give this stuff away to me!  I had to tell her to keep the change because she wasn't going to charge me that much.  I know what the books, DS game, and batting cost normally so I couldn't let her do that.  Small town living, isn't it great?

Enjoy your day!
